FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 22
6:00 - 9:00 pm - MCNY After Hours:

Celebrate the creative legacy of The Village Voice (1955-2018), the downtown alternative weekly that "gave New York its cool."

Free with Museum admission! Experience the vibe of the Village uptown. Enjoy music and live performances evoking New York's downtown and alternative music scene in its heyday, imbibe cocktails, watch films, and join us for guided tours of our Voice of the Village exhibition. All Museum galleries will be open late for viewing. 

6:00 - 7:00 pm - Happy Hour featuring specialty cocktails the Mule "de Cafe" & Bourbon Spiked Apple Cider (served hot or cold) for just $8!
6:00 - 9:00 pm - Cuarteto Guataca performs high energy Latin music (without the high decibel levels).
6:30 pm - Screening of Barbara Rubin & the Exploding NY Underground (Chuck Smith, 2018, 78 minutes), curated by Emily Apter and Annie Horner, cinema programmers at the Maysles Documentary Center
6:30 pm, 7:30 pm, and 8:30 pm - Tours of The Voice of the Village: Fred W. McDarrah Photographs
Each Voice of the Village tour will be followed by a poetry reading curated by The Poetry Project, featuring Nova Black and Akeema-Zane.

Barbara Rubin & the Exploding NY Underground (Chuck Smith, 2018, 78 min)
Barbara Rubin was an explosive and
shocking presence in NYC’s experimental film scene that inspired and connected NYC’s thriving underground from the time she released her first film Christmas On Earth at 17 years old.
