You've Got Game! Making Math Champs with NBA Math Hoops and the Museum of the City of New York

Join us for this free two-part workshop, where you’ll explore the stories and artifacts of the Museum’s exhibition City/Game: Basketball in New York and learn how you can bring the virtual NBA Math Hoops game to your students.
On Tuesday, December 1, hear from Museum curators about basketball’s distinctly New York character and uncover how the game reflects the cultural, social, economic, ethnic, and racial history of our city.
And on Wednesday, December 2, join experts from NBA Math Hoops as they lead educators through an interactive training for the virtual NBA Math Hoops program. This training is aimed at ensuring students can participate in the virtual program in either a facilitated or independent learning environment.
The NBA Math Hoops program is a free resource for educators and students that engages 3rd-8th grade students in fundamental math and social-emotional learning through the game of basketball! Working with real NBA and WNBA player stats, students and educators complete a 10-lesson curriculum while competing in NBA Math Hoops games. During the 2020-21 school year, more than 200,000 students across the United States will participate in the NBA Math Hoops experience in their classrooms.
Grade Range: This workshop is recommended for educators teaching students in grades 3-8.
Participants will need an internet-accessible device with audio capability to attend. Participants who register for this event will receive a Zoom link for both sessions of the program; join us for one evening or tune in for both parts.
Participants need only register once to receive the link for both sessions.
FREE. Registration required. 2.5 CTLE Hours for eligible attendees who attend both sessions.

About NBA Math Hoops
NBA Math Hoops is a comprehensive community program, featuring a basketball board game, mobile app, and curriculum, that allows students to learn fundamental math skills through the game of basketball. All program content is developed in alignment with Common Core State Standards and 21st Century Learning Skills, and has been shown to improve students’ foundational math and social-emotional skills. The NBA Math Hoops program experience is managed by Learn Fresh, a 501(c)3 nonprofit, in association with NBA Cares.
