At our December edition of Cocktails & Culture, we celebrate the winter solstice season and our brand-new exhibition, City of Faith: Religion, Activism, and Urban Space.  We'll groove into the holidays with DJ Rekha, founder of the legendary Basement Bhangra, the long-running and inclusive NYC club night that championed a style of South Asian dance music infused with hip-hop and dancehall beats. 

Brush up your cookie-decorating skills at a hands-on gingerbread cookie decorating session with Amy of Amy's Bread -- then check out MCNY's new Gingerbread NYC installation featuring spectacular gingerbread displays created by top bakeries and amateur bakers from all five boroughs.

About DJ Rekha: 
DJ Rekha, née Rekha Malhotra, pioneered the merging of Bhangra and Bollywood sounds with contemporary electronic dance music. Rooted in hip-hop and dub their DJ sets range from Brazilian Baile Funk to Balkan Beats and everything in between.  They founded Bollywood Disco, co-founded Mutiny and Basement Bhangra club nights -- one of NYC’s longest-running club nights (1997-2017). Their debut album "DJ Rekha presents Basement Bhangra" (featuring a track with Wyclef Jean) won much critical acclaim. They were named "Ambassador of Bhangra" by The New York Times They have curated events for Celebrate Brooklyn and Central Park SummerStage, and have performed at the Obama White House and internationally.
