About the Wide Awakes: Inspired by the Wide Awakes of 1860, a group of young abolitionists who banded together and devised a radical plan to support abolitionist efforts, the Wide Awakes have re-emerged to fight for justice, democracy, and welfare for all people. They are an open-source network that radically reimagines the future through creative collaboration.

About the Katal Center for Equity, Health, and Justice: Katal Center for Equity, Health, and Justice is a community organization that works in Connecticut and New York to strengthen the people, policies, institutions, and movements that advance equity, health, and justice for everyone. We envision a world where all communities have the resources and power to exercise self-determination and participate meaningfully in the democratic process.

About Josh MacPhee: Josh MacPhee is a designer, artist, and archivist. He is a founding member of the Justseeds Artists’ Cooperative (Justseeds.org) and Interference Archive, a public collection of cultural materials produced by social movements (InterferenceArchive.org).

This program is part of the Museum’s Freedom Week: A Journey into Art and Activism celebration in conjunction with the tenth anniversary of our ongoing exhibition, Activist New York.
