Join us to go behind-the-scenes of New York at Its Core and explore how stories can transform your students’ experience of their city.
Objects and images tell powerful stories, but how does a curator convey their meaning? Hear from the professionals who curated the first-ever exhibition on the 400-year history of New York City, get up close and personal with the material, and learn how we decide what sources to display and what descriptions go on our walls. You’ll explore techniques in literacy and project-based learning through the lenses of Social Studies and STEM.
What to Expect:*
- Meet the Museum’s curators and get your art, history, and STEM "cells" going as you experience the technology and design of museum curation and creation
- Play through an arcade set up by Games for Change, whose mission is to catalyze social impact through digital games
- Explore a pop-up exhibition designed by you (really!)
This Seminar Day for educators is held in conjunction with New York at Its Core, the first exhibition to present the compelling story of New York’s rise from a striving Dutch village to today’s “Capital of the World,” a preeminent global city now facing the future in a changing world.
