Moonlight & Movies | Moonstruck

When: Thursday, October 6, 2022, 6:30pm
Price: General Admission $20 | Members $15
Cher holds her arms up in the air in front of a full moon.

Join us for our final outdoor movie of the year and fall in love all over again with Moonstruck (1987), one of the great New York movies about the pleasures of food and eatings. NYC food writer and culinary tour guide Joe DiStefano will introduce the film, and Aperol spritzes will be available at the MCNY bar!

Now 35 years old, Moonstruck is "one of the most enchanting romantic comedies of all time...a tender and boisterously funny look at a multigenerational Italian American family in Brooklyn" (Criterion). Directed by Norman Jewison and written by John Patrick Shanley, Moonstruck stars the inimitable Cher, a young Nicolas Cage, and the late Olympia Dukakis, Danny Aiello, John Mahoney, and Vincent Gardenia, among other notables.

This edition of Moonlight & Movies accompanies our exhibition, Food in New York: Bigger Than the Plate. Warning: explicit eating, drinking, and baking scenes.

About the Speaker:
Joe DiStefano is a food writer and culinary tour guide widely known as the Culinary King of Queens. He’s been exploring the diverse cuisines of the World’s Borough for more than 20 years and has long been a champion of the bustling Chinatown of downtown Flushing. While he is best known as the go-to guy for food in Queens from Thai and Nepalese to Mexican and Peruvian and points in between, he is at heart an Italian-American with fond memories of Sunday sauce and St. Joseph’s Day zeppole, albeit one with a particular appetite for Queens and its foodways.
