Family STEAM Workshop: Building the City with The GIANT Room - April 8

Calling all aspiring engineers! Bring the whole family for an unforgettable museum workshop where STEAM comes to life through creativity, curiosity, and hands-on fun! Families will roll up their sleeves to design, experiment, and build together, using real-world science, technology, engineering, art, and math inspired by New York City’s past and present. 

After the workshop, dive deeper with a guided exploration of a related exhibition, uncovering how innovation, design, and problem-solving have shaped NYC  

Come explore the history of some of NYC’s most iconic sites through hands-on STEAM activities in connection with our new exhibition, He Built This City: Joe Macken’s Model. 

Perfect for curious kids and grown-ups alike, this interactive experience invites families to learn by doing, ask big questions, and see NYC through a fresh, STEAM-powered lens. Come imagine, create, and explore—together! 

Ticket Information: Non-Members: $40 per child, Members: $35 per child 

Ages: This program is designed for children ages 5 to 9, but also accessible to younger and older siblings ages 3 to 12.

Welcome and Introduction (10 minutes)

Learn about the Museum and the city's 5 boroughs in an interactive opening activity with one of our museum educators.

Explore the Galleries on a Guided Tour (20 minutes)

Join along for a guided family tour as we explore the Museum's New York at Its Core galleries, practice observation skills, and uncover the history of the construction of the Empire State Building and Prospect Park.

Make a Model Structure (1 hour)

Drawing off the inspiration of the objects explored in the New York at Its Core galleries, work together using provided to create a building or structure in a workshop led by an educator from The GIANT Room. Completed works will be documented to be featured in a lookbook following the program.

Advance registration is encouraged to guarantee a spot. All sales are final; refunds and exchanges are not permitted. Programs and dates are subject to change.
