Social Media Policy

Museum of the City of New York exterior

MCNY’s social media pages are intended to encourage storytelling, cross-cultural understanding, and inclusive, lively debate.

Our social media presence is designed for our community to discuss and engage with the Museum's collection, public programs, and educational offerings.

The views expressed by our fans and followers are their own and may not represent the views of the Museum of the City of New York, our Trustees, employees, or affiliates.

To maintain an accessible, informative, and civil space, we ask those who engage with our social media content to abide by the following guidelines:

Be respectful

Hateful, defamatory, threatening, obscene, discriminatory, or harassing comments, images, or videos will not be tolerated. Such comments and posts will be removed, and may result in you being banned or blocked. MCNY may remove any comment or post on our social media pages at any time, for any reason, at the discretion of the organization.

Stay on topic

We encourage discussion, but please keep comments relevant to the original post, and don't repeat the same message across multiple unrelated posts. Listen and read with an open mind, and engage in historical debate respectfully. We welcome you to share your own research, ask questions, and learn from the conversations. Off-topic posts or comments are likely to be removed.

Get in touch

We are committed to monitoring and engaging in conversations on our social media platforms, but  understand that the social media moderators check platforms at different intervals throughout the day and, therefore, are not always able to address issues or questions immediately. For immediate assistance, please contact socialmedia@mcny.org.

In addition to the above, please understand: Each social media platform has its own terms and conditions. We are not responsible for the actions of the platform.
