Poster for Taking Venice

The Venice Biennale is the oldest and one of the most important contemporary art exhibitions in the world. Until 1964 an American had never won the grand prize, but that changed with Robert Rauschenberg. Taking Venice uncovers the story behind rumors that the US Government and a team of high-placed insiders rigged the 1964 Venice Biennale so that Robert Rauschenberg could win the International Prize in Painting.

Following the screening of the film we will be joined for a discussion with Amei Wallach, director of Taking Venice; Brooke Kamin Rapaport, Commissioner and Curator of the United States Pavilion at the 2019 Venice Biennale; and Francine Snyder, Robert Rauschenberg Foundation Director of Archives and Digital in conversation with Sean Corcoran, Senior Curator of Prints and Photographs and curator of Robert Rauschenberg’s New York: Pictures from the Real World

Robert Rauschenberg’s New York: Pictures from the Real World will be open for viewing prior to the start of the program from 5:45 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

Snacks and drinks will be available for purchase.
