A black and white print of water flowing under a bridge.

Did you know that while NYC is surrounded by water, most of our drinking water is sourced from upstate reservoirs? Stop by to learn about the city’s water story – from 18th century reservoirs to present-day protection efforts – and explore how the city’s water features and habits have changed over time. All activities are included with Museum admission.

Saturdays and Sundays 11am to 4pm.

Take part in a range of activities that explore the many summer traditions New Yorkers have maintained over more than a century.

Stop by to:

  • Test your knowledge of New York City’s past and present water histories by answering true or false questions in this engaging activity.
  • Design your own water tower, inspired by the iconic structures that provide drinking water to New Yorkers and now serve as unique pieces of public art!
  • Discover New York City's water history by mapping iconic locations like High Bridge, Tenth (Amsterdam) Avenue, and Central Park.
Pick up a scavenger hunt to discover how New York City’s water story has shaped the city’s landscape both past and present.

NYC Discovery Lab August programs are through Saturday, August 31.
