Through the Lens of Rauschenberg

Rauschenberg stands in an art studio, examining large prints on a table surrounded by tools and materials, with artworks and photographs displayed on the walls.
Photograph Collection. Robert Rauschenberg Foundation Archives, New York.

In this dynamic series, leading contemporary photographers explore the photographic work of Robert Rauschenberg—one of the 20th century’s most influential and experimental artists.

Through intimate conversations and tours of Robert Rauschenberg’s New York: Pictures from the Real World led by the photographers, each session delves into how Rauschenberg used the camera not just as a tool of documentation, but as an extension of his collage-based practice. Blending their own practice and perspectives on the work of Rauschenberg, the program invites you to reconsider Rauschenberg’s photographs as vital works in their own right
