    Bring your group to the Museum of the City of New York’s Frederick A. O. Schwarz Education Center this summer, July 6 through August 17. Choose from one of the following experiences led by our team of interns.

    Dancing through History
    60-minute program for children ages 6-12

    Learn about music, dance, and culture of the Salsa movement that sprang up in New York City during the 1960s. Explore the music, instruments, and costumes in the exhibition Rhythm & Power: Salsa in New York and then design your own craft drum and show off your new moves in a pop-up dance-off. 

    New York Then and Now: Port City
    60-minute program for children ages 6-12

    What was life like in the city before New York became New York? Explore the exhibition Port City: 1609-1898 to get hands-on with artifacts and images of daily objects. Then go on a scavenger hunt to sketch artifacts from then that connect to everyday objects we use now.

    Creativity City: World City
    60-minute program for children ages 6-12

    Why is New York famous for entertainment, arts, music, dance, and theater?  Explore artworks, fashions, and advertisements in the exhibition World City: 1898-2012 to learn about key moments that helped New York become the global city it is today. Then design your own logo for New York!

    Future City Think Tank
    60-minute program for children ages 6-12

    Get ready to think like a city planner and design the future of New York City! Get hands-on to plan solutions for three challenges that New Yorkers face today: finding affordable housing, getting around the city, and living with nature. Explore maps, charts, and information and then design a virtual future city of your own!

    For Middle and High School Groups, we also offer interactive, object-based tours of the following exhibitions:

    Activist New York: Discover how New Yorkers fought for freedom and equality over the past 350 years. Highlights include posters, buttons, flags, and much more.

    Port City, 1609 – 1898: Travel back in time to see New York through the centuries! Highlights include pieces of the Brooklyn Bridge and original models of the Statue of Liberty.

    World City, 1898 – 2012: Discover moments that showed the creativity and strength of New Yorkers throughout the 20th century. Highlights include a tiffany silver shovel that broke ground for the subway, a flapper dress, and photographs of early Hip Hop legends.

    Future City Lab: Imagine the city’s future by designing streets, apartment buildings, and parks through using cutting-edge, interactive games!

    Special Exhibition Tours: Visit two of the Museum’s current exhibitions. Tours may include:
    Muslim in New York (through August 13), Rhythm and Power: Salsa in New York, AIDS at Home: Art and Everyday Activism, Activist New York
    Posters and Patriotism: Selling WWI in New York, and A City Seen: Todd Webb’s Postwar New York, 1945-1960.
