Membership for IDNYC Card Holders
The Museum of the City of New York offers IDNYC card holders a free Individual membership for one year.
To redeem your membership, please visit the Museum with your IDNYC card, and ask to register for IDNYC membership. The Museum is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Mon–Fri and 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sat–Sun. Please be sure to bring your valid IDNYC card with you to confirm your membership.
Please note: once you have redeemed a free membership with the Museum, you are not eligible for a second year of free membership but may renew at our General Membership levels.
What is IDNYC?
IDNYC is a government-issued photo identification card. Your IDNYC card will secure the peace of mind and access to New York City services that come from having recognized identification.

Who can obtain an IDNYC card?
All New York City residents. IDNYC benefits every city resident, including the most vulnerable communities: the homeless, youth, the elderly, undocumented immigrants, the formerly incarcerated, and others who may have difficulty obtaining other government-issued ID.
How much does an IDNYC card cost?
All IDNYC cards are free.
IDNYC Membership at the Museum of the City of New York
The Museum offers current IDNYC card holders a free membership for one year.
IDNYC-Individual membership benefits include:
- Free unlimited yearly admission for one with your valid IDNYC card
- Discounts on Public Programs, including lectures, performances, and walking tours.
Am I eligible for the IDNYC Membership Program?
IDNYC membership program is only available to IDNYC card holders. Current members of the Museum of the City of New York or recently lapsed members (memberships which have lapsed since January 1, 2014), are not eligible. Once you have redeemed a free membership with the Museum, you are not eligible for a second year of free membership but may renew at our General Membership levels.
How do I apply?
Registration is only in-person. To redeem your membership, please visit the Museum with your IDNYC card, and ask to register for IDNYC membership.
Do I need my physical IDNYC card before I apply?
Yes, the Museum of the City of New York requires that all applicants bring their IDNYC card for verification.
If I received my municipal ID prior to 2018, can I redeem a membership at the Museum in 2018?
Yes, please feel free to redeem your membership at any time prior to December 31, 2018 regardless of when you received your IDNYC card. Please see above for instructions on redeeming your membership.
