Until renovations of the Museum's historic building are complete sometime in 2011, the research room is closed to public researchers. In the interim, the Museum of the City of New York strives to provide access to its collections within its current staffing and budgetary constraints. Staff will accept inquiries about the Museum’s collections via email and phone and provide replies to questions that can be answered quickly.
Due to the large number of queries we field every day, it may be up to a month before you receive a response to your question.
You may be able to find an answer to your request by contacting the New York Historical Society (www.nyhistory.org), the New York Public Library (www.nypl.org), the Library of Congress (www.loc.gov) or the Municipal Archives (www.nyc.gov/records).
Access to the Museum’s collections will be greatly expanded in summer of 2010 when an online collections portal is launched.
Reproductions from the Museum’s collections continue to be available. For more information visit http://www.mcny.org/sidebars/rights-reproductions.html or call Robbi Siegel at 212-534-1672, ext. 3375.
We look forward to resuming full reference services and thank you for your patience and understanding in the meantime.
The Department of Collections Access can be reached at research@mcny.org or 212.534.1672 x 3399.
