Ivo Hendriks at the Museum of the City of New York

These prints are part of 20 new works from Dutch collage artist Ivo Hendriks's series "Eylant Man," which combines visual elements from historic and contemporary sources to contemplate the relationship among New Amsterdam, New York, and Amsterdam.

This work combines magazine images and advertisements with the 1664 watercolor view of New Amsterdam by Johannes Vingboons, Nieuw Amsterdam oft nue Nieuw Lorx opt teylant man.

Here, the artist combines Johannes Vingboons' 1664 watercolor of New Amsterdam, Nieuw Amsterdam oft nue Nieuw Lorx opt teylant man, as a base image upon which he constructs imaginary skylines pieced together from contemporary images of Amsterdam and New York City.

In this print, collage artist Ivo Henriks uses contemporary imagery against the background of Amsterdam to evoke Dutch Old Master paintings with a contemporary twist.
