In 1955, during the Dodgers' best season ever, the team announced that in the following season they would begin to play some of their "home" games in Jersey City. It was for many the first tangible public sign that the Dodgers' owner, Walter O'Malley, was serious about seeking alternative venues to the cramped Ebbets Field.
