World Series souvenir photograph and frame, 1947

From the collection of Jerry Stern

The simple fact that two African Americans, Jackie Robinson and Dan Bankhead, took the field for the Dodgers in the national pastime's national showcase provides another great moment from the 1947 World Series. By 1949 when the Dodgers and Yankees met again, Roy Campanella and Don Newcombe had joined Jackie on the big stage.
