Yogi Berra and the Yankees celebrate with Larsen at the end of the perfect game, October 8, 1956

Museum of the City of New York, LOOK Collection, photographs by Marvin E. Newman

LOOK magazine sent photographer Marvin E. Newman to photograph Dodgers pitcher Sal Maglie on October 8, 1956, but Newman captured pitch after pitch by Larsen, along with a second-by-second sequence showing catcher Yogi Berra running to the mound at the end of the game and jumping into Larsen's arms, in one of the memorable moments in baseball history. Although images of the final moments of this historic event are familiar to baseball fans, these particular photos from the Museum of the City of New York's collection, taken from behind Larsen, have never been exhibited before.
