"On April 30, 1946, my best friend, Andy Fier and I played hooky from Stuyvestant H.S. to go see the Yankees play Cleveland. Bob Feller pitched a no-hitter to beat the Yanks, but we couldn't tell anyone that we'd seen it, lest we get in trouble for sneaking out of school. A decade later, on October 8, 1956, I brought my roommate, Ruby, who was from Holland, to see the Yanks play the Dodgers in Game 5 of the World Series. It was Ruby's first baseball game, and Larsen pitched a "perfect game." Ruby couldn't understand why Americans got so excited over a game where "nothing happened.""
