The New York region had more than a dozen daily newspapers in the '50s, some publishing in the morning and some in the evening. As baseball reporting was the main sports assignment and readers expected unique coverage, ten of the papers sent reporters on the road with the clubs. Many households purchased two or three papers a day, just to read the differing coverage of the New York games.
