The Brooklyn Eagles, a Negro League team, merged with the Newark Dodgers to become the Newark Eagles in 1936. Monte Irvin, later of the New York Giants, played on the Newark Eagles, as did Don Newcombe, later of the Brooklyn Dodgers.
