Three on the Subway is comprised of three exhibitions of recent and contemporary photographs on, from, and of the subway, presented in honor of the one hundredth anniversary of the opening of New York's subway system in October, 1904.
Subway: Photographs by Bruce Davidson
These 65 color photographs taken by celebrated Magnum photographer Bruce Davidson from 1980 to 1980 document some of the darkest days of New York's subway system and capture the resilience of New Yorkers from all social, ethnic, and racial groups who rode the subways during those years.

Rebuilding the 1 & 9: Photographs by Sam Hollenshead
Some 45 black-and-white images chronicle the efforts of union workers to rebuild the tracks, tunnels, and subway stations destroyed in the attacks of 9/11, restoring a vital link between Lower Manhattan and the rest of the city.

Subway Memories: Photographs by Camilo Jose Vergara
These 75 color images, showcasing over thirty years of subway photography by Vergara (a Chilean-born documentary photographer and winner of a MacArthur Foundation "genius" award), document the evolution of the city's neighborhoods and offer views of stations, tracks, and trains throughout the urban landscape.
