Back to Past Exhibitions

Examining the newspaper as a pillar of Jewish immigrant life in the first half of the 20th Century.

Founded in 1897, the Jewish Daily Forward once boasted a readership larger than the New York Times. The Jewish Daily Forward: Embracing an Immigrant Community examines the newspaper in the context of Jewish immigrant life in the first half of the 20th century. The exhibition features photographs and artifacts that document the beliefs, concerns, and struggles of immigrant and second-generation Jewish New Yorkers.

The exhibition was developed in cooperation with the archives of the Jewish Daily Forward and is made possible by Dr. Jacqueline Heller in honor of her late father Joseph Heller; Davidson Kempner Advisors Inc.; The Jesselson Family; The David Berg Foundation; The Forward Association; Robin and Danny Greenspun; Joseph and Diane Steinberg Family Fund; Charles and Mildred Schnurmacher Foundation; Eden Family in honor of Sham and Nachum Eden; Israel Discount Bank New York; Lemberg Foundation, Inc.; Susan Zises Green Charitable Trust; Alan B.
