I Spy New York: Capturing the City through the Camera
An Introductory Digital Photography Class for Students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grades

Learn from the Museum’s renowned photography collection and work under the direction of a professional photographer to photograph the major elements of the city, including its buildings, parks, and people. Show your new knowledge and skills in a student exhibition at the Museum.

DATES: 8 Sessions, Wednesdays, September 21 – November 30, 2016*

TIME: 4:00 - 6:00 pm

EXHIBITION OPENING RECEPTION: Wednesday, December 14 at 5:00 pm


Student activities include:

  • Learning how to use a professional digital camera
  • Field trips to Central Park, the Brooklyn Bridge, and other iconic NYC sites
  • Making cyanotype prints outside
  • Museum gallery visits and scavenger hunts to look at photographs on view
  • Meeting Museum professionals to learn about the behind-the-scenes workings of a Museum
  • Printing, matting, and framing a final photo for the student installation at the Museum
  • Critique and activities with guest photographer


*Due to school holidays and Museum conflicts, there are no classes on October 12th, November 16th, and November 23rd
