WEST 18TH STREET,
NOS. 461-463 The buildings at 463 and 461 West 18th Street were erected between 1880 and 1890 as stables. In Abbott's day, the bar-restaurant at 463 West 18th Street was attached to a corner liquor store at 130 Tenth Avenue (outside the frame, left). These businesses and the junk shop at no. 461 served the seamen and dockworkers of the still active West Side waterfront. Today, the three properties remain in the hands of a single landlord. Since 1988, a French restaurant, La Luncheonette, has occupied the corner building and the lower floor of no. 463, and a photographer rents no. 461 and the top floor of no. 463.
