WILLOW PLACE, NOS. 43-49
Between Joralemon and State Streets
MAY 14, 1936. ABBOTT FILE 124

A Greek Revival colonnade added distinction to these four town houses, built circa 1846. When Abbott photographed them, the houses lacked central heat and were occupied by poor families. The fine May weather brought many children out to play in the streets, and Abbott included them in this image and in her photograph of 113 Willow Street. In both cases, she exposed several negatives to capture the children's expressive gestures.

The houses lay within the Brooklyn Heights Historic District and have been restored.
